1st team success

Colchester RGS 1st XV complete successful pre – season rugby preparations

After a hard week of training the 1st XV squad headed to the Brentwood Festival with high hopes.

Conditions were good and conducive to running rugby as Colchester tackled a strong Richard Hale side. Strong defence and the ability to take chances saw CRGS run out 12-5 winners. Next up were Dartford GS and CRGS really started to attack with fluency. Dartford couldn’t cope with the CRGS offloading game and Colchester scored a convincing 28-10 win. Campion were the next opponents and in what was a fairly scrappy game, punctuated continually by the referee’s whistle CRGS won 17-10. The final game of the day saw CRGS take on local rivals Ipswich and whilst dominating the game territorially Ipswich’s excellent defence kept Colchester at bay and the 0-0 draw was a fair result.

All in all this was a productive days rugby with a number of players experiencing rugby at this level for the first time and augurs well for the upcoming season.
